How PDR works
Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) uses specialized rods, picks, and reflective lighting to push and massage dents back to factory contour from behind the panel. No sanding, no filler, no paint. The factory paint stays intact — preserving warranty, resale value, and visual quality.
The technique requires technician skill and the right tools. Done correctly, the repair is invisible under any light condition. Done poorly, it can leave high spots, low spots, or paint cracks that traditional repair could have avoided.
How traditional dent repair works
Traditional dent repair involves sanding the damaged area to bare metal, applying body filler to restore contour, sanding the filler smooth, priming, painting, and clearcoating. The result is a repaired panel that matches surrounding panels — but the original factory paint at that spot is gone.
This approach works for any damage regardless of paint condition or metal stretch. The trade-off is time, cost, and the loss of factory paint.
When PDR is the right choice
Paint must be intact (no cracks or chips at the damage), metal not stretched (no deep dents on flat panels), dent not on a sharp body line or panel edge. Examples that work well: door dings, shopping-cart dents, hail damage, minor creases on flat panel sections.
Cost: typically 40–70% less than traditional repair. Time: typically same-day or 1–2 days vs 3–7 days for traditional. Warranty: factory paint warranty preserved.
When traditional is the right choice
Paint is cracked or chipped, metal is stretched (deep dent on flat panel), dent is on a sharp body line or panel edge, panel has multiple problems requiring panel replacement.
Traditional repair is also necessary when PDR has been attempted unsuccessfully — the metal may have been over-pulled or stretched during the attempt.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if PDR will work?
An experienced PDR technician can assess in 5 minutes whether the dent is a PDR candidate. Free estimates available.
Is PDR invisible after?
Done correctly, yes — invisible under any light. We use light-box inspection from multiple angles to verify.
Will PDR void my warranty?
No — PDR preserves original factory paint and panel. Manufacturer warranty stays intact.
